Travelling expands our mind. It refreshes our souls and rejuvenates us. Perhaps, there is nobody who doesn’t like to travel. There are many means to travel far and wide, conveyances for faster transportation being the air mode, is immensely popular with those who can afford as it saves time and energy. But ironically, I find the most comfortable means of transport to be the railways. The laid-back way of passing through different states, watching mountains, lakes, rivers, people passing by in fleeting seconds make me happy. If I can manage time, I always prefer to travel by train. Time is the most important factor in this case, I know, so I’ve made a bucket list as the five fantastico train journey I want to make in my lifetime.
I’m still to visit the pride of India, The Tajmahal. I want to visit Agra on the Maharaja Express, the most expensive and luxurious train in India. It belongs to IRCTC and covers Delhi, Jaipur and Agra. It also has made its place in the 2011 list of World’s Top 25 Trains by The Society of International Railway Travelers. It is famous for not only its royal treatment on board but also the off-rail tours conducted by it during the journey including visiting the monuments, heritage sites, palaces, guided shopping etc.
The Golden Chariot comes next. As the name suggests, it is in fact designed to look like a chariot! There are 19 coaches on the train all of which are coloured purple and gold, sporting the logo of a mythological animal with the head of an elephant and a body of a lion. Enchanting, isn’t it? It connects the important tourist spots of the states of Karnataka, Kerala, Goa and Tamilnadu and, is operated by the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation. The train has five-star amenities including a spa!
The Seven Stars in Kyushu is called a “cruise train”. Kyushu is Japan’s third largest island and this train ride offers a beautiful journey through it. The passengers can savor the beauty of the island while enjoying the majestic treatment offered by the hosts. The train is intricately decorated with fourteen en-suite cabins. The passengers alight at different points to take part in excursions.
Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express, there is no better way to enjoy the serene beauty of Siberia! The train has two imperial suites (I want to avail one) along with Gold and Silver class accommodations. It covers the famous Trans-Siberian route between Moscow and Vladivostok, as well as special tours of the Silk Road, Russia’s Arctic and the Caspian. Scrumptious food, opulent decor and magnificent panoramic view are enjoyed by the passengers while taking this luxurious leisurely tour covering two weeks and crossing eight time zones!
Perhaps the most authentic and famous of the luxury trains is The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express (It’s the one on which Agatha Christie wrote her famous mystery novel)
The train still follows the legendary route from Paris to Istanbul though a few other itineraries are also available. I want to travel following the authentic route.
These are my dream trips, fantastico is the word to describe them. I know I have to shell out a fortune to avail them, but I nurture the dream, and I would succeed someday.
