Waking Up To A Gold Morning With Colgate 360

Every morning we wake up with new aspirations. The morning sun shines upon us with a new smile. Forgetting yesterday’s faults and regrets, every morning we start afresh. The darkness of the night is replaced by the golden hues of the sun, and new hopes rise on the horizon. Why do we feel new and fresh every morning?

As we grow up, our preferences and priorities change. As a child, my mornings used to start with a glass of milk and butter toasts. Mom was the first to wake up and then it was my turn. Every morning it was a fussy affair for me. I used to rub my eyes repeatedly showing my reluctance to leave the bed. I had to, but before the breakfast, as I used to brush my teeth, the fresh taste of the toothpaste cheered me up. Believe it or not, I even ate the toothpaste a couple of times, I so liked the taste!

Now, I can’t afford that luxury of spending time on my bed in the morning except on the holidays. I even skip my breakfast and, this gives rise to fracas often with my mom. But even today, the morning starts as I head to the washroom to freshen up. My morning doesn’t start without brushing my teeth thoroughly. Many a thing has changed about the way I start my morning since the childhood but one, brushing the teeth is still the first thing I do after getting up. This healthy habit has been installed in me from the very beginning of my life and, I think it is the best way to start a day, a healthy wholesome way.

Mornings are new, habits are old
Some energies are precious just like gold
Let’s embrace and shine, cherish the yearnings
Wake up with the #Colgate360GoldMornings.

1-colgate 011

A few days ago, an impressive gift package from Colgate India just made my morning even fresher. I think almost everybody will agree with the fact that a healthy brushing habit needs a good toothbrush and toothpaste. In ancient times, charcoal was used to clean teeth. The power of activated charcoal is brought here on the spiral bristles of a golden-yellow toothbrush from Colgate. The toothbrush surely is able to turn good mornings into gold mornings! Not only that, the toothbrush can help us cleaning the tongue, gums, and interior of the cheeks as well, which means, it is an all-around 360-degree cleansing.

Now, each of my good mornings will be golden, with a better and healthy to freshen up.
A golden morning- not just a greeting but a special way to start the way with new hopes, new smile, and a new freshness.

The Peppy Bollywood Queen

Most of the Bollywood actors have launched their children in movies making this almost a regular trend. Sonam Kapoor, daughter of Anil Kapoor, the celebrated hero, also joined the bandwagon with her debut film Saawariya in 2007. Though she assisted Sanjay Leela Bhansali behind the camera with his film Black in 2005, but she decided to choose to face the camera as her career with the film Saawariya.

Saawariya was not a big hit but Sonam personally was able to create a storm. She also earned a nomination for the Filmfare best debut female Award for this film. What made her presence prominent for the very first film was her peppy, lively attitude and a distinct sense of fashion.

To be a popular fashion diva is not everyone’s cup of tea. While most of our Bollywood actresses are beautiful and delicate creatures, but a very few of them has a perfect fashion sense, a fashionista so to say. From the very beginning of her career, Sonam Kapoor exudes an energy that is likely to be infectious. I mean, her attitude, the way she speaks about her life and career even, in reality, produces an instant charm for the audience. There is no dearth of attractive faces on the silver screen, but in most of tem we miss this easygoing, peppy chirpiness. And, this is what has made her unique and has helped her to earn a huge popularity among the youth.

Though Sonam was hugely successful in making a devoted fanbase, her films were not doing good in the box-office. Her first decent success came in I Hate Love Storys and then there was no looking back for her. Her looks in every film, be it an emotional, romantic drama like Raanjhanaa, the hunky-dory romantic comedy Khoobsurat, the fast-paced comedy drama Dolly Ki Doli or the melodramatic Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, has attracted every eye. Sonam has not only the courage to adorn casual, normal, or ethnic outfits in an uncommon way, but she carries them with ease and grace also. Her spontaneity and positive approach have made her what she is today, an avid leader in the fashion industry, the avant-garde.

While Sonam has been praised most of the times for her off-bit dressing sense and peppy style, she has often been criticized also for the same reason. But keeping her cool, she continues with her own style and, now, media has recognized her as the style icon of the film industry. Earning this style was not an easy thing for her, but she did it, with her own peppy style.

Sonam Kapoor’s latest film, the most awaited release of the year 2016, Neerja, has recently released a song ‘Jeete Hai Chal’. The song has been picturised showcasing a positive vibe and optimism. The song perhaps portrays the real self of Sonam along with the character she is playing in the film. We wish the peppy diva a great success. Do watch the song and you can feel the vibe, too.

Social Impacts of Online Shopping

Since the internet has become a part and parcel of our existence, online shopping sites are burgeoning and getting popular with every passing day. Shopping, the definition and the concept, both have been revolutionized in the recent years. This is an inevitable part of progress, technically and socially. Though at the beginning some of us were sceptical about the authenticity, quality and price of the goods bought online, with passing years, we have understood the convenience and advantage of online shopping. There are some negative aspects too, but let’s concentrate on the brighter side first.

The Positive Impacts

The first and foremost one being the time. We can shop at our own convenience, be it the wee hours of morning or midnight, online shopping websites are open 24×7. No more we are at the mercy of the shopkeepers, waiting for a particular time to open the shops or being in a hurry as they are going to close them.

Standing in a long queue while paying for the purchased goods is a common and annoying incident in big stores. Online shopping saves us from that predicament.

We often have to pay for parking in shopping malls. Also, we have to travel, the fuel consumption, the pollution caused by this and the exhaustion, all are saved when we shop online.

There are a number of online shopping sites now, we can compare the prices and go for the lowest one. The competition between the sites to attract consumers has made it easier for us. Moreover, we often have deals and discounts on special days, national holidays, during festivals etc which are way better than the shopping centers.

The variety is greater than any shop any day.

Most of the reputed brands have their own websites now and, thus, even if one wants to buy expensive or branded goods, it can be done in a jiffy.

Downloading music on i-Pods or buying books on Kindle have never been easier.

All the online shopping sites use different courier services to deliver their products. This has created job opportunity for the not-so-educated youths. In a country like India, this is of great importance.

With the advent of smartphones and with the introduction of apps for most of the popular shopping websites, we can shop from anywhere and everywhere provided we have an internet connection.

Lets us now focus on some of the worrying factors that we do face while shopping online.

The Negative Impacts

Small shops and retailers are finding it difficult to survive as they can’t afford to offer heavy discounts on their products.

Sometimes the COD (cash on delivery) is not available and, many of us find it threatening to share their personal banking details online. In fact, sometimes such information could lead to drastic consequences as fraudulent activities are quite common over the internet.

We can’t check the goods physically before purchase. In the case of clothing, we can’t give them a try to find out whether they fit us perfectly.

Sometimes it takes too much time to deliver the goods and, the purpose for which the buy was meant for is missed. In direct shopping, we get the goods as soon as we buy and pay for it. But that’s not possible with online shopping.

In spite of all these, online shopping is becoming popular with every passing day and many socialists are defining it as the future of shopping.

The Book With the Most Impact On Me

I’m not an avid reader, but still of all the books I’ve read in my lifetime so far, there are very few which have really been able to create an impact on me. Not that when I read books, I’m not moved by the characters, their happiness or sadness. They do stir my mind as long as I’m reading the book, but as soon as I close it, they just disappear into the thin air failing to create a lasting impression. Still, there is one book which, I think, have totally changed the way I used to look at life and introspect. It has been able to etch its words on my heart forever.

It was some three years ago I laid my hands on Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist. The book was bought by my sister. After she got married and shifted to Kolkata, I was rearranging the bookshelf one day while searching for a particular book on management. I bumped into Coelho’s book and remembered how my sister was overwhelmed while talking about it. I decided to go with it.

When I started reading the book, I didn’t even think that I should have finished the 163 pages in one go. But, it happened. As the book says,”When you really want something, the universe always conspires in your favour”- and I wanted to get more and more of it with every page turned.

The plot of the book, perhaps all of you know, is simple. A Spanish shepherd boy, Santiago, keeps on seeing dreams about some treasure hidden underneath the pyramids. He subsequently starts his journey, to achieve the Personal Legend, something equivalent to our own individual goals in life. Amidst the sand, tribe wars and many other incidents, Santiago learns the lessons of life, that one should listen to the heart, should love and strive to accomplish the mission he has been sent for on the earth. The hope and possibility of making our dreams come true make life an interesting journey.

The book is not only about the story of a shepherd boy and his journey. It is, rather, an introspection of life seen with deep philosophy, it is about the urge we find inside us to move ahead overcoming all the difficulties, it is about rising above one’s failures and pondering over the voice of one’s heart, the inner call. The description and the choice of words are impeccable, simply amazing.

The quote that has touched me most and, which, I think is applicable to all of us,“We are told from childhood onward that everything we want to do is impossible. We grow up with this idea, and as the years accumulate, so too do the layers of prejudice, fear and guilt. There comes a time when our personal calling is so deeply buried in our soul as to be invisible. But it’s still there.”

I find is so true! We often forget to listen to our heart, we forget to nurture the passion. It gets buried, but it remains there. This book can give the reader the much-needed inspiration to chase that passion, to rise from the ashes like a phoenix. It’s the book I treasure, with the words encouraging me always.

Impacts of Cinema

It goes without saying that films have a great impact on us, individually and socially. Cinema, as an art form, has improved a lot by becoming a serious art form and a branch of study by itself. Surprisingly, very few earnest endeavor have been made to assess the social and psychological impacts of films on us from an academic viewpoint. In a country like India where a large portion population is still uneducated, films as the most popular media of communication influences the youth immensely.

With films burgeoning every Fridays and almost all of them making a decent amount of profit, (all of them are not hit or super hit, but most of them succeed to rest on the borderline of no-profit-no-loss) it’s quite clear than films have gained superiority over others as an art form. Whether that is good or bad is not germane to my discussion, though. This composite art form has helped to popularize music, dance, literature, and have earned fame for quite a decent number of people.

Films are capable of creating hypnotic impacts on the society. The cult film “Sholay” by Ramesh Sippy is a landmark one having crossed all the milestones of popularity. The film was released on the 15th of August 1975, and even after so many years, the trance created by the film has remained alive. The iconic characters of Jai, Veeru, Thakur, Gabbar, Basanti, Kalia, Sambha, and Rahim Chacha have become immortal in the history of Indian cinema. Besides, the dialogues have become proverbial, we use them anywhere and everywhere- “Yeh Haath Mujhe De De Thakur”, “Kitne aadmi thhe?” or “Chakki pising and pising” these are almost a part of Indian vocabulary.

Very few movies are able to create a global impact and the few that have succeeded,  Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge directed by Aditya Chopra is sure to be one of them. The charm of Shahrukh and Kajol, the melodious music and the essence of Indian culture- the trio was irresistible. 20 years ago, I was merely a kid then, many parents had dreamt of naming their son as Raj and daughters as Simran. I think due to the impact of DDLJ, these two names are so common in our generation! Still, now we can see pictures of couples in the legendary sarshon ka khet, the man posing as Shahrukh with stretched arms and the woman standing in front. Such are the mesmerizing impact of films.

Many other films have been succeeded to create a wave, Lagaan, Hum Aaapke Hai Kaun, Mother India, Mughal-e-Azam to name a few others. They have influenced the youth to change their lifestyle as well as hairstyle. Films often showcase an exaggerated amount of violence and sex, create a Utopian world, make people think everything is as glitzy and easy-going as shown in the life of the heroes and heroines. They create a make-believe world and often the gullible young minds are misguided.

The great potentialities of films could be more explored to educate the mass while being a popular genre of entertainment.

Five Fantastico Trips I Want To Make Before I Die

Travelling expands our mind. It refreshes our souls and rejuvenates us. Perhaps, there is nobody who doesn’t like to travel. There are many means to travel far and wide, conveyances for faster transportation being the air mode, is immensely popular with those who can afford as it saves time and energy. But ironically, I find the most comfortable means of transport to be the railways. The laid-back way of passing through different states, watching mountains, lakes, rivers, people passing by in fleeting seconds make me happy. If I can manage time, I always prefer to travel by train. Time is the most important factor in this case, I know, so I’ve made a bucket list as the five fantastico train journey I want to make in my lifetime.

I’m still to visit the pride of India, The Tajmahal. I want to visit Agra on the Maharaja Express, the most expensive and luxurious train in India. It belongs to IRCTC and covers Delhi, Jaipur and Agra. It also has made its place in the 2011 list of World’s Top 25 Trains by The Society of International Railway Travelers. It is famous for not only its royal treatment on board but also the off-rail tours conducted by it during the journey including visiting the monuments, heritage sites, palaces, guided shopping etc.

The Golden Chariot comes next. As the name suggests, it is in fact designed to look like a chariot! There are 19 coaches on the train all of which are coloured purple and gold, sporting the logo of a mythological animal with the head of an elephant and a body of a lion. Enchanting, isn’t it? It connects the important tourist spots of the states of Karnataka, Kerala, Goa and Tamilnadu and, is operated by the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation. The train has five-star amenities including a spa!

The Seven Stars in Kyushu is called a “cruise train”. Kyushu is Japan’s third largest island and this train ride offers a beautiful journey through it. The passengers can savor the beauty of the island while enjoying the majestic treatment offered by the hosts. The train is intricately decorated with fourteen en-suite cabins. The passengers alight at different points to take part in excursions.

Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express, there is no better way to enjoy the serene beauty of Siberia! The train has two imperial suites (I want to avail one) along with Gold and Silver class accommodations. It covers the famous Trans-Siberian route between Moscow and Vladivostok, as well as special tours of the Silk Road, Russia’s Arctic and the Caspian. Scrumptious food, opulent decor and magnificent panoramic view are enjoyed by the passengers while taking this luxurious leisurely tour covering two weeks and crossing eight time zones!

Perhaps the most authentic and famous of the luxury trains is The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express (It’s the one on which Agatha Christie wrote her famous mystery novel)
The train still follows the legendary route from Paris to Istanbul though a few other itineraries are also available. I want to travel following the authentic route.

These are my dream trips, fantastico is the word to describe them. I know I have to shell out a fortune to avail them, but I nurture the dream, and I would succeed someday.

Impact of Reading Books

Reading is a fundamental thing. It is an integral part of life. We need to read not only for the entertainment but for the development of our mind and brain. Only reading can help you to be the human being you want to be, to prosper in life and, to gain a place of your own among millions of other people. It is all about enlightenment. The most wonderful thing is, reading helps to become a better person, a person who has knowledge about many a thing and who can understand and know the life story of others.

By the above statement, I mean to say reading has a great impact on our life. A person is known by the books he reads, so goes the adage. But before we start reading by ourselves, it’s always the parents who read to us to grow the interest in us about book and reading. My mother used to read to me, mostly stories from Aesop’s Fables or some fairy tales. When I learnt to recognize the alphabets and could spell out words, she deliberately stopped reading the story at an interesting point when my childish curiosity was at its crescendo. She forced me to read the next few lines myself and thus had created the habit of reading in me. Victor Hugo said in Les Miserables, “To learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled out is a spark.”- this is the most remarkable analogy I’ve ever heard about reading.

Reading stimulates the mind, it helps to look at the same thing from different perspectives and broadens your mind. The impact of a good book stays with us for a long time and helps us to choose our actions in the right way.

Reading helps to gain knowledge about different things. You can visualize the world in between the covers of books, you can see the world through words.
Another impact of reading is that it helps to improve the memory. When we read a story book, we need to remember the sequence of events, detailing, names of the characters and events so that we grasp the whole story meaningfully. Reading requires a seamless connection between your intelligence, concentration, understanding ability and imagination, the last one is more needed when you are reading a fiction. So, reading is an exercise for the brain.

The most wonder impact of reading is its entertainment quotient. Reading a book of one’s choice can have peaceful effects on minds. Pregnant women are often advised to read good books to keep their mind fresh and calm, this is said to have positive effects on the baby. We all know the story of Abhimanyu from The Mahabharata, who learnt the way of breaking the chakrabyuha (an intricate battle plan) while he was in his mother’s womb, but didn’t know the way of coming out. His mother missed out listening to that part. In ancient times also, people used to believe this.

Reading helps a lot to improve vocabulary and writing skills. It also increases concentration and patience.

The crux is, though a solitary endeavour, reading has a great impact on us, it helps to develop our latent skills and, makes the prominent ones sharper.

A Fantastico Experience

I’ve travelled a lot throughout my life. So many trips have done with family and friends, have gone abroad for official purposes. But, there are very few trips which are literally unforgettable. Travelling is always a fun and in that sense, every trip means happiness. Still, there memories and incidents associated with some journey that make them very much special. The fond memories of such a trip are very close to my heart and perhaps, it would ever be.

I was in Bengaluru for about 8 months in 2012. I was totally a stranger in the city with no acquaintances, let alone friends. In fact, I was transferred on an emergency basis to serve a client based there. It was a temporary shift and the hike offered was pretty decent. So, technically, there was nothing to complain.

I’m not a workaholic but I wanted to finish the project as soon as possible and, worked for hours on weekdays, felt totally sapped out on weekends and slept. That there was no friends or nowhere to go about, didn’t bother me. My company arranged my stay in an apartment. The only person I used to talk there with was another boy who lived on the same floor, just opposite to my 1 BHK flat. He was living there alone too, the flat belonged to one of his relatives. He was known as Iyengar and was from some village.

One Saturday morning, he knocked at my door. It was only 7.30 am and I was fast asleep. I opened the door with a big question-mark written quite unmistakeably on my face. He smiled wryly and said, suddenly he got a call from his mother that his father has fallen ill and might need to be hospitalized as said by the local doctor. He had to go home and he asked me whether I could accompany him for there were a lot of things to take care of in case the hospitalization was needed. There being no one in the house except his mother, he might need some help.

I had to agree because there was no other option. We left for his village on his bike at about 9 am. He told me it would take about 5-6 hours to reach there.

There is nothing much to say about the road trip. We reached his village in a little more than five hours. The good news was his father was recovering. The things that made me overwhelmed was the treatment I got from his family and fellow villagers. They were eager to show their gratitude in every possible way. During lunch, Iyengar’s mother served home-made delicacies. She lamented that they were strict vegetarians and, so had nothing to offer as per my choice. I would never forget her kind words, it mattered a lot because Tamil Brahmins are quite conservative in this respect. I said her several times I actually enjoyed the food and she needed not to worry. She was not very proficient in English, with a limited vocabulary, she tried her best to show her love and kindness. I realized where love speaks, language can’t stand as a bar. The love I received in those two days from some unknown people would be a treasured. And all because I accompanied their son as he needed help.

The innocence, kindness and love I received from absolute strangers have made that trip one of the most memorable ones of my life. A fantastico experience of a different type, so to say.

Jazz-Passion Sings

I’ve said earlier in this blog that my interest in music grew from the childhood. My parents were the inspirations, they were all ears to different types of music and they believed, music speaks of emotions and passion regardless of the language. So, from my very childhood, my ears were trained to listen to different genres starting from Hindustani classical to Latino pop. Music wafted in the ambience of our house.

My love for jazz originated much later, though. My cousin was a music aficionado and was five years older to me. He had a huge collection and I spent many evenings at my uncle’s house listening to different voices while savouring ‘poha’ made my Shweta aunty. My cousin, Vivek, was a die-hard fan of vocal jazz. When I first listened to Frank Sinatra, honestly, I didn’t like him much. But, after watching Anchors Aweigh, I just fell in love with him and his voice! Songs like “fly me to the moon’ or “I’ve got you under my skin” can transport anyone to a different level. The lyrics, the emotion and the mesmerizing voice- together the impact is irresistible.

Nat “King” Cole and Lena Horne, come next to my list of favorites. For the latter, her expressive singing voice earned her musical roles in white movies in the 1940s, when it was still illegal for some theaters to screen films with black actors. She was not only a singer but also a rebel and a fighter.

Basically, jazz music is characterized by a strong but rhythmic understructure flexible in nature. Improvisation, that is, creating and rebuilding at the spur of the moment, according to me, is the essence of jazz. It is partly planned and partly spontaneous. It is said, jazz is considered as the best example of what democracy should be- individual freedom with responsibility to the group. The inspiration of Jazz must be created in the mind first with passion and spontaneity. Jazz is accompanied by instruments like saxophone, trumpet, piano, double bass, and drums most of the times.

It might sound hilarious but we did make a jazz group in our locality, my cousin, and his three friends and I being the members. I used to be the lyricist and, my cousin was on drums. We even performed in local functions a couple of times. Of course, the enthusiasm subsided with passing days and as the members got engaged in studies and jobs, our jazz story came to an end.

The music genre which once stormed America during their emergence in the 1920s is still regarded as one of the best ways to speak out the ways. To speak out the ways with the language of music. To make it clearer, if classical music is like a good book, jazz is like a good conversation, it changes and comes out differently even if you discuss the same thing. There lies the spontaneity or improvisation of which I talked above.

Jazz is a bit complex and often you need to listen to a song more than once to grasp the beauty of it. But, trust me, if you get it somehow, you are bound to fall in love with jazz.

Impact of Blogging, a Fantastico Journey

My blogging journey started exactly 18 months ago. I’ve been an enthusiastic writer since my school days. I used to write poems, short stories but was always hesitant to show it to anybody. That were the secrets kept within the pages of my notebook. During my engineering days, I almost forgot to scribble anything. The ideas either didn’t occur or when they did shine, I was too busy with my studies. After getting my first job, the ecstasy of earning and spending on my own was overwhelming and writing as a hobby was still to resurface. Then after settling on my second job and being in this IT industry for five long years, the monotony was rising slowly. Then, as a result, the writing bug slowly creeps in and, finally, I started this blog.

It has been a fantastico journey so far. Blogging makes us look beyond ourselves. I’m not a great reader, but since I’ve started writing on this blog (my sister has some contributions to this blog, too and I have to acknowledge her), I’ve resumed my habit of reading. I enjoy reading posts people publish on their blogs. Blog posts do reveal different incidents of their life and work and I love reading those tidbits.

The journey of my blogging is something very much like the new car introduced by Tata Motors. The new Tata Zica is a zippy car. It’s peppy, spacious, strong, fuel-efficient and is based on an all-new platform. The unique design makes it a fun drive. Similarly, blogging has opened new horizons to me. I have come to know of things and write about them which I couldn’t think of before.

The sojourn as a blogger till now is really a peppy one. I’ve made friendship with new people, they all have different point of views towards life and things, but they all share the same love, the love of blogging.

The most amazing thing is I’ve discovered one of my school friends here in the blogosphere. We studied in the same school for just 4 years and then his father was transferred to another city. But he was a good friend to remember. A few months ago, while I was just aimlessly going through the list of bloggers on Indiblogger, I happened to stumble upon a name that rang a bell. I visited the blog and emailed him to confirm the identity. The reply came within 20 minutes! We both were happy to meet each other after a decade. He runs a tech-blog and his main goal is to help co-bloggers with information and know-how.

As Tata Motors defines the design of the new Tata Zica as ‘expressive and exciting’, similarly, words scribbled on this blog are moving expressions of my heart. They reflect my passion for writing. I don’t write to preach, I write because I’ve something to say and the feelings are unleashed through words. Blogging has undoubtedly impacted my life by making it a better one.
